The Menswear Collection, started by a former menswear designer, covers a time period of 1915 to the present. This unique collection not only includes traditional men's clothing, but also features soft tailoring and alternative men's design apparel as well as leather garments. In addition, there is a small collection of soldier's uniforms from World War I to Viet Nam.
As Menswear Design is a course included in Columbia's Fashion Design curriculum, this collection provides students with a research archive for style, pattern, fabric, and construction techniques used throughout the 20th century. For the merchandising students, this collection illustrates the varying types of menswear available in the marketplace. For the Costume Design major, the collection is a resource of historic styles and period details.
